The past couple of years have been rather difficult for Huawei in the light of sanctions from the west but their wearable segment is still kicking, and able to bring the fight to its homeboy, Xiaomi’s door.

We did a deep dive into Xiaomi’s Mi Band devices and you can check the shopping guide above should you be in the market for one of those devices. In this post, we shall be looking at the competition. What does the Huawei camp have to offer? Well, let’s dig in with the latest offer to the oldest one that, we believe, is still worth your money today in 2022.

Huawei Band 7

The Huawei Band 7 offers a lot for the price but remains a mere iterative increment over its predecessor, the Huawei Band 6. A different strap latching mechanism that is a lot more user-friendly, very very subtle design tweaks from the Band 6, and the inclusion of an Always-on display function is what differentiates this product from its predecessor. Even the proprietary charging mechanism is exactly the same. So why would you get this over its predecessor? Well, for the price and if you really really want the always-on display. If you can get the Huawei Band 6 or even the Honor Band 6 at a better price, get that instead as even the AoD on this one is in its first iteration, meaning there are a lot of teething issues.

Huawei Band 7 Key Specs

Price: $59.99

Huawei Band 6

The Huawei Band 6, and the Honor Band 6 by extension offers the same wide 1.4-inch AMOLED display that we see with the current generation Huawei Band 7. This offers a lot more usable space compared to other devices like the Mi Bands. The Huawei Band 6 is the device for you if you’re looking for a simple design from your fitness tracker, aren’t too attached to AoD and aren’t looking to spend current-flagship fitness tracker money as this has seen a few impressive price cuts over the past few months. Huawei Band 6 Specs

Display: 1.47 inch AMOLED 194 x 368 pixelsBattery: Up to 14 days for typical useSensors: Accelerometer sensor, Gyroscope sensor, Optical heart rate sensor (No GPS)Workout modes: 96 workout modes

Price: $53.99

Huawei Band 5

Released back in 2019, the band 5 retains a lot of design cues from its predecessor, the Band 4. It spots a big button on the face of the display, which again, limits the amount of usable space, resulting to a sub-1 inch display. This device steps it up to an AMOLED panel though, which leads to better battery life, especially with the dark default UI. This tracks up to 10 workout modes and is water-resistant up to 50m so it is a lot more sturdy. These previous gen designs are starting to feel antiquated at this point, especially as much of the industry is going to smaller bezels. Huawei Band 5 Specs

Display: 0.95-inch AMOLED color display with 282 PPIBattery: 100mAh with Up to 14 days of typical useSensors: Accelerometer sensor, Gyroscope sensor, Optical heart rate sensor (No GPS)Workout modes: 10 workout modes

Price: $42.00

Huawei Band 4

The Huawei Band 4 is the last product we would recommend. These devices are pretty hard to come by today and support is quickly running out so unless you really want this product, we’d recommend you look at more modern options. The Band 4 comes with a 0.9-inch TFT display which is pretty small for modern standards. It also comes with a button on the watch’s face which also severely limits the usable real estate on the product. The charging mechanism is weird for today’s standards, but the display is okay and the functions baked in haven’t aged too badly. As an entry device into this space, there are a lot worse options. Huawei Band 4 Specs

Display: 80 x 160 pixels, 0.96 inches TFT PanelBattery: 91mAh with up to 7 days of typical useSensors: 3-axis acceleration sensor, Infrared wear sensor, Optical heart rate sensorWorkout Modes: 8 workout exercises

Conclusion

Huawei might be a shadow of its former self but the products from this company continue to shape the industry in many aspects. These Bands are just a testament of how the company is able to deliver quality products, tough times and sanctions notwithstanding. The Huawei Band 7 is the best device from the company today so if your budget allows it, get it already. If it doesn’t, you’re not missing a lot if you opt for the Huawei Band 6. The same can’t be said about the Huawei Band 5 or older units. There are so many options for persons in the market for fitness trackers and Huawei is clearly one of the top players today.
